Justin Herbert MNF Spotlight: Herbert Torches Broncos in the Air

The Denver Broncos are in yet another primetime spot, but at least we have a young and exciting QB to keep us from falling asleep. Read ahead to see our three favorite Justin Herbert player props for this edition of Monday Night Football.

AFC West hostilities will be renewed at SoFi Stadium on Monday Night Football as the Denver Broncos visit the Los Angeles Chargers.

Denver has struggled so far in 2022, getting out of the gate at 2-3. L.A. is a bit better off at 3-2, but it needs a win here to avoid falling into a tie for second in the division.

The outcome of the quarterback battle between the Broncos’ Russell Wilson and the Chargers’ Justin Herbert will likely go a long way in determining the winner of this tilt. Let’s zero in on the latter, and discuss our three favorite prop picks involving Herbert this Monday night.

Letting it fly

The Broncos have been more vulnerable against the run than the pass in 2022, ranking 14th in yards allowed per game on the ground (112.4), and tops in the NFL in yards allowed through the air per game (176.6). However, the Chargers have been among the most pass-heavy teams in football, and bettors should expect this squad to stick to its strength.

L.A. is ranked a mediocre 23rd in rushing yards per contest (99.3), but second in the NFL at 291.2 passing yards per game — with Herbert accumulating the vast majority. Only Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills have moved the ball through the air more effectively than the Chargers through five weeks (324 yards per game).

Part of the reason L.A. is found so high up on the passing charts is dedication, as the Chargers have attempted exactly 40 passes per tilt en route to a 3-2 record. Regardless of how Herbert’s team is faring on the scoreboard, he should be asked to drop back early and often.
